Shopping Watches

Shopping watches is a unique shopping adventure. For many buyers, the shopping experience of finding and winning a great antique button. Today, people often want to express different sides of themselves at different times, and owning a watch wardrobe has become commonplace. The average individual owns between three and four watches - a number that is on the rise. Prestige watches are a particularly popular category, with everything from sport to dress to dramatically different timepieces in the hot spot.

Just give focus the Brand Name, while you are purchasing anew watch. Avoid non- brand watches. Another is buying watches from non-authorized dealers. These two alone will help out you to buy the right watch.

Others are interested in bargains, but prefer to buy products at a fixed price. To have a fun and safe buying experience, it’s important to take the time to learn about bidding and buying. Knowing key concepts and rules will help you become a successful watch buyer.

The first thing to consider when buying a watch is, what is its purpose? Will you use it to time your lap speed, your flying speed, or your lunch hour? The wide availability of watch styles and features allows you to pick the watch that fits your needs, style, and taste perfectly. You may want a watch to make a statement, or one with a special combination of features or looks. You may want a watch for recreational, casual, dress, sports, or active wear.

You have to explore all your options before you make a good choice, rather than to make a selection from the brands you are familiar with. These well known brands may not always be the best choice for you. Be sure the professional watch dealer you're purchasing from is authorized to sell the brand. As an Authorized Watch Retailer, may not provide guarantee that each watch we buying is new watches, and warranted by the watch manufacturer. Quality is only the prime factor, because there are so many replica of well brand are in the market. So you must aware of that.

Understanding the technology of branded watches is too difficult to concern. The "brain" of the watch is the integrated circuit; the source of energy consists of a miniature battery that typically lasts about two to three years before needing replacement. Whether it is a quartz, certified mechanical or non-certified mechanical, most high quality watches have the same basic criteria of keeping time with accuracy.

It is certainly romantic to buy watches of modern generation, with highly decorated. The Fact is that most expensive watches are mass-produced and the high level of quality is ensured by modern techniques of mass production.

The price of a watch isn't always contingent strictly upon the materials used for the case. The price is immediately significantly higher because of the work that went into creating the movement. It may be better to buy a expensive watch rather than to choose affordable priced watch.

Finally, it is important to understand the meaning of resale value. Instead of considering how much of your investment you will get back, when you sell the watch, think in terms of how much you will gain or lose, when you sell it.

ID one Concept Watch

Cartier introduces a concept watch without adjusting!

Indeed, thanks to an innovative conception requesting breakthrough materials and technologies, this concept watch does not need the usual adjusting components of mechanical movements:

* conceived as a mono-bloc piece and manufactured in carbon crystal (material allowing the use of a micron engraving technology), the balance-wheel is directly well balanced
* calculated to obtain an optimum chronometry and manufactured in an innovative material called Zérodur®* (material allowing the use of a micron engraving technology), the active length of the hairspring is directly adapted to the balance-wheel
* manufactured in carbon crystal, the anchor and the anchor wheel are perfectly matching at the time of assembly

Moreover, this concept watch remains perfectly adjusted throughout its lifetime thanks to:

* a carbon crystal escapement cage mounted on silent-blocks (true shock-absorbers of the movement) which protect all the regulating components (hairspring, balance-wheel, anchor, anchor wheel, escapement axis),
* a manufacturing of all regulating components in materials insensitive to thermal variations and magnetic fields (balance-wheel, anchor and anchor wheel in carbon crystal, hairspring in Zérodur®*, axis in titanium),
* movement components with a very low friction coefficient. Indeed, they are either coated with ADLC, either manufactured in carbon crystal: this coating and this material do not need liquid lubrication (oil or grease)

Adjusting: a major know-how in mechanical watchmaking

TTraditionally, a mechanical watch’s movement requires several adjusting operations done by a master watchmaker. These adjusting operations are mandatory to ensure the good functioning of the watch.

As soon as the watchmaker starts assembling the watch, he needs to operate several adjustments:

* Make the balance-wheel perfectly balanced, either with adjusting screws, either by removing matter on the rim
* Adjust the hairspring with the balance-wheel by modulating its active length, most of the time using an index assembly
* Ensure a good match between the escapement components (anchor and anchor wheel), by modifying the position of the adjusting pallet-stones on the anchor.

In some situations the movement might get misadjusted: in case of shocks or magnetisation, when there are strong thermal variations or when the oils get too old or dried. If this happens, the movement has to be re-adjusted.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 500M

The most resistant and reliable timepiece of its generation, it is also one of the most versatile — a high-performance, go-anywhere, do-anything sportswatch that redefines the standard codes and conventions of luxury Swiss watchmaking.

HOW MUCH PRESSURE CAN YOU RESIST?

Pressure? The only pressure is the one we put on ourselves. This is the driving force behind the new AQUARACER 500M CALIBRE 5, a luxury watch inspired by the extreme requirements of professional deep-sea diving.

Pushing the limits: The AQUARACER 500M CALIBRE 5 surpasses the depths and bounds of reliability, precision and prestige.

TAG Heuer’s strong links to the high-pressure world of watersports began in 1895, the year it patented its first waterresistant case. In 1950, it launched the Mareograph, the world’s first chronograph with tide and regatta indicators. In 1982, it launched the 2000 collection, its first professional diving series and the precursor to the prestigious Aquaracer line.

With the new AQUARACER 500M CALIBRE 5, the latest addition to the Aquaracer collection, TAG Heuer delivers its most remarkable watersports watch to date. It is outfitted with the superlative characteristics that have come to represent both the essence of the TAG Heuer brand and the crucial features of all professional sports watches.

On the AQUARACER 500M CALIBRE 5, these critical qualities have been pushed to a new extreme of luxury performance:

GUARANTEED WATER RESISTANCE TO 500 METERS

Subjected to the Swiss watch industry’s manufacturing and operating tests – the most exacting and rigorous in the world.

UNIDI RECTION AL TURNING BEZEL

A strong and emblematic design component and an essential safety feature that makes the model instantly recognizable as a diving watch. With brushed steel numerals surrounded by rubber molding.

EASY-GRIP STUDS & OVERSIZED SCREW-IN CROWN

The 43mm brushed-steel case is fitted with six studs to facilitate handling with diving gloves. The fine-brushed, color-coated, screw-in crown has double safety gaskets to prevent dust or water penetration.

DIAL WITH VERTICAL STREAK EFFECT

Special luminescence markers on the hands and indexes and an orange-tipped secondhand make reading easy in dim light or under water. “500 M” appears next to the date window at 9 o’clock, which is magnified. “Calibre 5” and “Automatic” appear at 6 o’clock.

AUTOMATIC HELIUM RELEASE VALVE

Providing functionality for professional divers operating at great depths for prolonged periods of time.
SCRATCH-RESISTANT SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL AND CASEBACK

For better visibility, the front crystal’s interior is anti-reflection treated.

TAG HEUER AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 5 MOVEMENT

Swiss-Made Automatic 26mm movement (Calibre ETA 2836-2) with engraved “Côtes de Genève” oscillating mass.

The TAG HEUER AQUARACER 500M CALIBRE 5 is a high-tech, high-performance diving instrument made to last forever, and a prestigious design object of superlative luxury style. Technically advanced, masculine and authentic: these are the key words for a new TAG Heuer time instrument embodying the very spirit of the depths.

TAG Heuer Monaco LS

Once upon a time on the Le Mans circuit, Steve McQueen was at the wheel of his Porsche 917. On his wrist the MONACO - an automatic, square, blue chronograph that suddenly caused mayhem in the orderly world of the small, round, white timepiece... A stone had been thrown into the watchmaking pond that is still making waves 40 years later. That beautiful stranger, which met with such enormous and lasting success and became an icon, deserved an offspring worthy of the same degree of popularity. Now TAG Heuer is launching the MONACO LS Chronograph Calibre 12 so that the legendary collection can have a fresh opportunity to reveal its DNA.

*MONACO LS Chronograph Calibre 12*

One word that springs to mind when thinking of the MONACO is Audacity: the audacity of the first square automatic chronograph on the market; the audacity of a design that mocked the established rules; the audacity of associating it with a rebel actor at a time when the Ambassador concept did not exist. The MONACO LS Chronograph Calibre 12 does justice to its sire : the movement, the look and design detail all turn received ideas upside down and flout convention : this timepiece is other-worldly.

The movement is a basic Dubois Depraz calibre so that the seconds, shown in a linear date opening, can be read linearly from the tip of a double red rhodium hand. The dial, inspired by the MONACO 360 Concept Chronograph, the polished bridges, the translucent embossed numerals, the chronograph dials and the angled date opening are voice and counter-voice in a black, deliberately hi-tech song sheet. The 40.5 mm case, waterproof down to 100 m, simply had to be made of polished or brushed stainless steel, and its ergonomic shape is achieved thanks to the generously curved and bevelled sapphire glass. The spirit of the MONACO V4 is palpable ... The bracelet in black alligator with a folding clasp adds a classically elegant gloss to the avant-garde look whilst the stainless steel strap, with its unique micro-adjustment device, underlines the definitely futuristic bent of this Ode to Otherness.

TAG Heuer certainly knows how to give a new lease of life to a watchmaking legend. Resuscitating Steve McQueen is more complicated. An actor, but more than anything a racing driver, he used to say : « Racing is life...... everything before or after is just waiting ». A phrase that Lewis Hamilton, the 2008 Formula 1 World Champion, could have made his own since, aged just 10, he used to pull Ron Dennis’s sleeve saying « One day I shall drive a McLaren ». Thanks to the magic of film, TAG Heuer made the impossible encounter of the Hollywood idol and the virtuoso of the racing circuit possible. For the length of a film, they bandied words, challenged each other and crossed swords. On the actor’s wrist the original MONACO, on the champion's the MONACO LS.A modern duel dramatising one of the great driving forces throughout history: the spirit of competition. The same spirit that drives the technicians and watchmakers of TAG Heuer when, day after day, they face the challenge of surpassing their own achievements, of doing more to innovate and reinvent themselves. This is how today we shape the timepieces of the future.

New Zenith Watch Reviews

El Primero 1969-2009

In 2009, Zenith celebrates 40 years of the El Primero created in 1969

El Primero, symbol of excellence, is the first integrated automatic chronograph movement capable of measuring short periods of time with one tenth of a second accuracy.

1969, the world, eyes riveted to the TV screens, followed with bated breath Neil Armstrong’s the first steps on the moon. The public was tremendously excited by the conquest of space, the dream of absolute and limitless freedom that unites all people.

Developed in 1969, rapidly becoming the benchmark of watchmaking, the El Primero 400 – its Esperanto name expresses the concept of humanistic universality – illustrates the creative genius and subtlety of Zenith Manufacture. Almost academic in design, making no concessions to anything unessential, El Primero is a masterpiece of innovation. Its perfect integration enables a movement that occupies very little space to be both reliable and accurate: the position of each plate, each gear and each component is optimized. Furthermore, the column wheel, the real conductor of the chronograph, centralizes and coordinates the orders transmitted by the push-buttons.

Unrivalled to date, El Primero is the only chronograph movement capable of measuring short periods of time with 1/10th of a second accuracy, a performance made possible by using a balance that oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour. This absolute accuracy means that the movement passes the tests of the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. As a double push-button chronograph with over 50 hours of autonomy, this movement – which also has an instantaneous jump calendar – can accept other complication add-ons: Triple Calendar, Moon Phase, Flyback...

Accurate, reliable and sophisticated, the El Primero, with its pearly, angular, planished decoration, is a symbol of excellence: it is a testimonial to the art of watchmaking down through the centuries and represents the pinnacle of watchmaking accomplishment. It will be the basis for the various current models of the 4000 series, with their new integral complications, the famous OPEN (4021) being a good example.

Tourbillon, Open versions, power reserve, Grande Date, Flyback are the complications that have transformed, completed and perfected this exceptional movement; just five years ago, no-one would have imagined that these complications could feature on a high frequency calibre. The calibre requires a total of nine months of work, needs 5 to 50 separate operations per piece, demands 50 separate grinding operations for the bridge dimensions. Twenty watchmakers are actively involved in making one movement and no fewer than 18 different metals are used.

Always copied but never equalled, the El Primero today is a watch movement philosophy that comes in 23 versions. They are the basis for collections such as ACADEMY, CHRONOMASTER and CLASS for the classical models, DEFY and PORT ROYAL for the modern lines, and STAR and STARISSIME for the ladies timepieces.

Today the El Primero is centre stage, where it occupies a dominating position in the chronograph family.

In 2009, Zenith celebrates the 40th anniversary of the El Primero which was created in 1969. This occasion is marked by the launch of two special series celebrating the first timepiece to be fitted with the legendary El Primero calibre: The Originals and New Vintage 69.

The El Primero calibre for these Anniversary series has been named the 469 in nodding acknowledgement of the year in which the original model was created. This automatic Date Chronograph movement comprises 278 components and 31 rubies.

The tribute is orchestrated in 3 parts, with three materials for the same (40 mm) case design directly inspired by the original model, in a collector’s limited edition series.

“We will re-issue the stainless steel models, produce a more refined gold version and bring them into the 21st Century with a titanium version” announced Thierry Nataf. “We want to celebrate the present unpretentiously, but, with a great deal of relevance and talent, I hope, in honour of a model that is now a true legend”.

The first series, named “The Originals”, is faithful to the vintage design, but with a subtle twist for the counters which meet and almost touch at the centre of the dial.

The second collection, “New Vintage 1969”, comprises models also inspired by the original model. The El Primero Anniversary logo on the dial at 7 o’clock is echoed in the engraving on the transparent sapphire back of the case - a special detail that immediately commands attention. The dials in this series are crossed by an unusual band of light.

This dazzling trademark range, the embodiment of the acceleration of time between 1969 and 2009, is etched with all the historical guilloches of the Zenith collections: Barleycorn, Clou de Paris, Draughtboard and Grand Clou de Paris.

The ray of energy also runs through the Open El Primero 4021 icons in every Chronomaster, Class, Defy and Port Royal collection that will be re-issued in rose gold and stainless steel with a silver guilloche dial for this 40th anniversary.

The pieces of the New Vintage 69 collection will all be available in a limited and numbered series, during 2009 only.

Zenith Defy Classic

The ZENITH DEFY CLASSIC collection is amazing. Its virile silhouette, dynamic lines and elegant power suggest a particular lifestyle: the GT Coupé in the garage, the yacht in the marina, and the private jet at the airport.

Defy Classic

A particular lifestyle: the GT Coupé in the garage, the yacht in the marina, and the private jet at the airport

There are four models in this collection, each of which comes with an asphalt black or white metal face the pattern of which is repeated on the central link of the steel bracelet and on the oscillating weight made of tungsten. Water-resistant to 300 m, yet all the models have a sapphire glass base.

The DEFY CLASSIC OPEN comes with a new version of the harmonic El Primero calibre, the SC 4021. The movement’s oscillations at the rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour can be seen through the window in the dial. Each detail has been well thought out: the power reserve with its indicator, the applied indexes, the open-work luminous hands.

The DEFY CLASSIC CHRONO AERO is a 4000 SC El Primero chronograph, with three counters, in which the use of colours – inspired by aviation – guarantees maximum in-flight readability.

The DEFY CLASSIC POWER RESERVE has an Elite 685 SC movement, which displays a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and a power reserve indicator, which looks like a dashboard counter.

The DEFY CLASSIC HMS, the most refined version, houses the Elite 680 SC calibre, with a small seconds dial at 9 o’clock and the date indication at 3 o’clock magnified by a lens.

The world is changing, and so is Zenith!

The Manufacture is now launching a collection of sport-chic watches – DEFY – and has thus reconnected with its recent past of excellence and records in chronometry. An unusual design, an avant-garde technology, a unique style, an outstanding performance... truly a revolution in both aesthetic and mechanical design. Power, virility, modernity, he who wears it has a racy lifestyle.

Designed like a racing car, the new DEFY makes a powerful statement with its muscle-bound chassis, its racy profile, and athletic build. On the wrist it is impressive and compelling, thanks also to the different watch diameters, which vary according to the movement: 46.5 mm for the El Primero chronograph or 43 mm for the Elite series. Everything is geared to making the watch stand out and be different: from the decorative screw heads in the rotating bezel, to the articulated stainless steel bracelet. It is to watchmaking what the Formula 1 is to the automobile industry: focused high-tech at the service of pure emotion.

A combination of innovative materials equips these timepieces with a movement and a case body intended for use under extreme conditions: unbreakable, able to withstand high temperatures and pressure. They are the product of three years of R & D into the associated physical and chemical properties of these materials. The result is Zenithium, an exclusive ultralight, ultraresistant alloy, from which bridges of the movements are made.

The DEFY CLASSIC collection is already amazing. Its virile silhouette, dynamic lines and elegant power suggest a particular lifestyle: the GT Coupé in the garage, the yacht in the marina, and the private jet at the airport. But Zenith has hit home even harder. Designed by a fearless and unfettered imagination the DEFY XTREME collection cannot be described, it must be experienced. It is an uncaged thoroughbred, an angry beast, aggressive, wild, extravagant, out of this world.
