JEAN DUNAND - Palace

“The primary inspiration of the Palace is the cultural and societal transformation of Western civilisation during a 50-year period, defined as 1880-1930.”

Press Release

Jean Dunand Palace

Imagination, invention, adventure, romance: it was a remarkable half-century, the foundation for the modern era. It gave birth to everything from electricity to radio to cinema, Art Nouveau to Art Deco, automobile to airplane, jazz and skyscrapers and, indeed, the wrist- watch. Its heroes and icons included Jules Verne, Rudolph Valentino, the Wright Brothers, Bix Beiderbecke. It was only natural that this extraordinary period would inspire the latest – and boldest – creation from Jean Dunand.

Porsche Design P´6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition Watch

Porsche Design P´6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition Watch

While it has nothing to do with the actual theme of the watch, when I first laid eyes on this new limited edition Porsche Design P'6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 timepiece, I thought of something a bit kinky. You know, those lace-up on the sides leather pants, corsets, and other lingerie/bondage outfits? You know, because of that cross-stitching in red thread on the black leather strap. Then I toned it back a bit, and thought to myself "this isn't a watch that people are going to wear with those types of outfits. The watch also reminds me of hip shoes - which are something that someone might easily choose to wear the watch with. So below, you'll find a few Nike's with matching color schemes and red laces.

Rado Integral Jubile Store Special Watch

Here is a charming little ladies watch from Rado that is exclusively available at Rado boutiques (and perhaps a few other special authorized stores).

Longines – The watch of the Expéditions Polaires Françaises

In 1947 France instigated a series of exploratory missions to the Arctic and Antarctica under the leadership of a renowned scientist, Paul-Emile Victor. These expeditions brought together geologists, geodesists, meteorologists, physicists, biologists, geographers and glaciologists all were aiming to explore, study and understand the North and South Poles. The mass of equipment required by the first Paul-Emile Victor missions for exploring these inhospitable regions included four Longines ship’s chronometers and fifteen Longines wristwatches which were used for determining their astronomical position. In honour of these exploratory missions the Swiss watchmaker has re-issued the time-piece used by the scientists on the Expéditions Polaires Françaises – Missions Paul-Emile Victor to explore Greenland and the Adélie Coast.

In the second half of the 1940s, public opinion was fascinated by the most distant corners of the Earth, which aroused a passionate interest among many people. Like other countries, France set up a body for organising national scientific expeditions, namely to the Arctic and Antarctica. Paul-Emile Victor, an ethnologist and explorer who had already spent a good deal of time in Greenland during the 1930s, was mandated to create and manage the new office. Between 1947 and 1976 the Expéditions Polaires Françaises – Missions Paul-Emile Victor organised 150 trips to Greenland and the Adélie Coast, led by the ethnologist.

Urwerk UR-202 White Shark

Press Release

Time is monochrome on the UR-202 White Shark, with its case, dial and hour satellites all in an original shimmering silver/white hue emitted by titanium, steel and ARCAP. The White Shark, is a timepiece unadorned with no makeup, its only ornament is its technicality. The White Shark, eschews colourful display to concentrate focus on l'art mécanique.

The black numbers of the hours on the satellites stand out clearly against the light background; however one number of the 12 hour digits is the bright red exception to the rule that identifies the individual piece number in this limited edition of 12. The White Shark, a limited edition of 12 pieces, is available exclusively from Chronopassion (Paris), The Hour Glass (Singapore) and URWERK (Geneva).

HAMILTON New Digital Auto Pulsomatic

In the words of Matthias Breschan, CEO of Hamilton, “the most important thing is that a watch concept be authentic.” The American Brand is lucky to have a vast historical heritage to draw inspiration from. All their watches are linked to the brand’s past. The Ventura, for example was reissued in several different limited edition forms during the past few years to represent the brand’s creation of the first electric watch. In 2010 the major resurrection will occur in the form of the Pulsomatic, a watch based on Hamilton’s creation of the world’s first digital display watch.

Chopard L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon Watch

The relationship between fine cars and fine watches has manifested itself as a curious borrowing of traits, where both items have equally borrowed from one another. Cars perhaps have taken the polished good looks and legibility of watch dials, while watches have borrowed “performance feel” from automobiles in terms of design and character. At the same time, each want to borrow personality traits from one another, resulting in cars and watches that feel to the consumers as they have been looking over each other’s shoulders for decades on the design bench.

RICHARD MILLE – Horological Wizard and Car Buff

Richard Mille, one of the largest sponsors of Le Mans Classic, has soft spot for mechanical wonders. Worldtempus tagged along for the petrol-injected event.

The legendary Le Mans racetracks once again hosted approximately 460 competing racecars, while the surrounding paddocks hosted more than 8,000 exhibited cars—all of which represented the opposite of environmentally sound or anything that would remotely fit the description of a modern car. Le Mans, which took place July 9-11, is all about good old-fashioned power, noise and—well—Richard Mille.

Breitling Chronospace Instrument for Pilots

Breitling has issued a new version of their Chronospace quartz pilot watch. Actually SuperQuartz™ to be specific. The movement, like all Breitling movements, is COSC chronometer-certified. Passing the chronometer standards that the COSC sets is actually fairly easy for a mechanical timepiece, however, for a quartz caliber, it must be much more accurate in terms of rate. The end result is a movement ten times more accurate than an ordinary quartz movement.

UTS GMT 1000M Watch

There are a lot of boutique dive watches available right now, many sporting the same cases, dials and movements. Smaller companies can't afford the cost of a custom design, so after a while many look the same. UTS, on the other hand, makes its own cases from steel ingots; you'll not see their designs used elsewhere. An interesting mix of angular lugs and round body, the UTS cases wrap nicely around the wrist and have a massive 5mm bracelet as a matching option.

Oris Williams F1 Team Day Date Watch's 2010

Continuing their partnership with the Williams F1 team, Oris has released a new motor sport watch for 2010 that is likely the nicest yet when it comes to a watch made for Williams. This is at least the fourth watch to come from the partnership, and it looks really nice in mostly black with a technical looking blue trim. Oris is further refining the dial design, offering a fascinating, yet polished look.
