Breguet Double Tourbillon tournant

Classique Grande Complication 5347

Working independently one from the other, the two tourbillons are coupled by means of differential gears and mounted on a rotating center plate effecting a complete revolution in twelve hours. The differentials transmit the mean rate of the two tourbillon regulators and the display of the time to the rotating center plate, allowing the simultaneous and tensionally equal rewinding of the twin barrels. The movement’s rate is therefore the mean rate of the two tourbillons, making its running rate twice as precise as a normal movement’s. The oscillators’ isochronism errors in the vertical positions are cancelled. The current hour is shown via the bridge connecting the two tourbillons, which doubles as an hour hand, while the minutes are indicated by a standard minute hand at center.

The watch’s exceptionally meticulous finish includes engine-turning by hand, elegant Roman numerals, blued-steel Breguet hands, the movement’s decorated bridges and bars, circular-grained wheels and chamfered sinks, not to mention its many bevelled and polished parts.

The back of the movement holds further refinements; not least the view through the clear sapphire caseback of an engraved diagram of the solar system arrayed around the movement’s scintillating gears. Three patent applications have been filed to protect this timepiece’s unique features: original winding system, more than one regulating system and differential gearing. Its successful development stands as a salute to precision at its most exceptional. Its winding and time-setting mechanism is a two-part construction to allow proper centering of the crown on the case flank.

Zenith Grande Class Traveller Open Multicity

Choosing your Time is to save Time

Zenith Men Class TravellerSometimes, much can be said with few words. Pure in style, with a minimalist approach and the aim of being a basic essential: this is the philosophy of the Class collection. Targeted at the businessman who appreciates subtle elegance and discreet luxury, timeless classical style and ultimate chic. This collection offers Zenith Manufacture the ideal setting in which to express its expertise as a great watchmaker.

The Grande Class Open this year faced a new challenge, a complication capable of showing the time simultaneously in 24 different locations in the world: Tokyo, Paris, New York and even Hong Kong at a glance. Thanks to a rotating disk anchored by the hour hand, it is possible to tell the time in any time zone and, in addition, determine whether it is night or day with the help of the sun or the star pictured on the disk. This is easily done by setting the city you are in at twelve noon and activating the crown situated at 11 o’clock.

Moreover, the Grande Class Traveller Open Multicity has a Grande Date with a three-disk patented exclusive mechanism that enables the date to be displayed very visibly occupying minimal calibre space.

To these technical features we have added a totally unique design displaying the cities on a spiral, giving the dial a sophisticated aesthetic in contrast with the sober 46 mm case. It is available in two versions: rose gold - classical and precious – as well as the more modern stainless steel. And of course a sapphire glass caseback, integrated black crocodile strap, triple folding clasp and the well known love for detail that is typical of all Zenith timepieces.

Omega Seamaster NZL-32 Chronograph

In honour of Emirates Team New Zealand and to mark its role as the team’s official watch, OMEGA is proud to present its new Seamaster NZL-32 chronograph, named after the boat that won the America’s Cup in 1995 and developed in collaboration with OMEGA Ambassador Dean Barker, skipper of Team New Zealand.

The official Emirates Team New Zealand watch during the America’s Cup

The OMEGA Seamaster NZL-32 combines elegance with functionality. Designed for the regatta, this attractive watch is also a high-precision instrument capable of measuring performance to one-eighth of a second. This new model, with its carefully designed aesthetics and readability, is sure to appeal to America’s Cup fans as well as the wider public.

Particular attention was paid to the key needs of the skipper and his crew during a regatta. The “start of the regatta” function clearly indicates the ten minutes preceding the starting signal by means of a special five-dot indicator. The dots gradually fill with a different colour ? first blue, then red ? as each successive five-minute period elapses. The OMEGA calibre 3602 self-winding movement is chronometer-certified and has a 40-hour power reserve.

The silver and black dial has applied, facetted hour markers, with luminous dots above each. A recessed black counter with a silver surround at 3 o’clock gives a clear overview of the total minutes that have elapsed, with blue and red markings to indicate the two five-minute periods leading up to the start. The smaller hour counter is placed at 12 o’clock. A discreet small seconds counter is situated at 9 o’clock. For maximum readability, the skeleton hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, and the hands of the chronograph counters are red.

The polished and brushed stainless steel case has the distinctive shape and characteristic horns of the Seamaster line. The push buttons are on the left at 8 and 10 o’clock, giving the chronograph a balanced, harmonious appearance. A seahorse, which is the symbol of the Seamaster collection, is stamped on the case back. The case has a screw-in back and crown, ensuring water resistance to a depth of 150 metres (500 feet).

The chronograph is available with either a brushed stainless steel bracelet or a black rubber strap with white stitching and a fold-over clasp.

Zenith Chronomaster Open

Chronomaster Open

Chronomaster does not belong to any era or any style:
it has its own unique style

Chronomaster does not belong to any era or any style: it has its own unique style. It has become what is known as a « classic », an icon, the signature of ZENITH Manufacture. From the characteristic double gaudron of the case to the guilloche on the dials – an authentic “grain d’orge” pattern – everything evokes the great tradition of watchmaking revisited. Yet at the same time, the opening in the dial over the heart of the movement, the titanium for the Concept model and the smile-shaped power reserve are so many knowing touches of modernity.

It may have become as timeless as a Leonardo da Vinci sketch or a Mozart sonata, but the Chronomaster collection is not perfection at a standstill: this year it is enriched by some novel features that strengthen its roots as well as its contemporary characteristics. Thus, the Chronomaster Open El Primero Venice, a limited edition, is reminiscent of the splendours of the Italian Renaissance, whilst the Chronomaster Open Concept explores the avenues of technological design.

“Veni, Vidi, Vici” — Julius Cæsar

Above the mist, the winged Lion dominates St Mark’s Square, testimony to the splendours of the past and symbol of “La Serenissima”. Its mysterious origins – Assyrian according to some, Etruscan or even Chinese according to others – are what one would expect of a magical and cosmopolitan city, birthplace of many talents: diplomatic and commercial, artistic and political.

« I wanted to pay tribute to the people of the lagoon, who, confined to a few tiny islands, lit up the Renaissance and are still fascinating today. That is why I created a limited series of 100 watches, featuring a dial worked in gold thread and representing the lion in St Mark’s Square» says Thierry Nataf, President and Artistic Director of ZENITH International. Guarding the mythical El Primero as it does the famous city of Venice, the outline of the griffin is embossed across the whole of the dial, alongside the Arab numerals; furthermore, this finely sculptured figure in front of the opening for the escapement also celebrates the 36,000 oscillations of the chronograph.

This timepiece, dedicated to the Queen of the Adriatic, is thus the diva of all the rose gold models in the Chronomaster collection: retrograde date, ‘grande date’, or simply Open. From the detail of the execution to the prowess of the high-speed caliber, this aristocratic and refined collection has rewritten a traditional score to a modern tune.

“Love is blind” — William Shakespeare

Using the codes of the past and projecting them into the future, the Chronomaster Open Concept combines a century and a half of watchmaking know-how with futuristic materials: the case is made of natural or black titanium, a metal with three times the tensile strength of stainless steel but with only half the weight; the carbon fibre strap can withstand traction of up to 300 kg; the dial is made of TR90, a transparent material resulting from space research, translucent and unbreakable, on which the numerals appear to float. Beyond it, the pearly plate of the 4021J movement can be seen. Sealed for shock resistance, it can be regulated from the outside thanks to the raised cobalt screw.

Playing with light and shadows, this unusual timepiece is a new alchemy of tradition and modernity. The watchmaker’s hand adjusting the angle of a movement or fitting a sword-shaped hand are as much a part of it as the post-modern vibrations of futuristic technology.

 “His Watch… for Her”

Top 10 Lies About Replica Watches

Many arrive here with minds polluted by scam sites and scam "review" sites: all peddlers of lies and deception.

In an effort to help cleanse the noobs' minds of this filth, I propose the following 10 common and devious lies and misconceptions about replica watches, and the business of manufacturing and selling replica watches.

Lie-1: The best replica watches are made in Switzerland, followed closely by Italy.

-- This is the biggest lie of all. All replica watches are made somewhere in Asia, mostly China. Saying that replicas are made in Switzerland or Italy is a lie intended to extract more money from the ignorant.

Lie-2: Replica watches are graded according to quality. C (or whatever) is the lowest and AAA+++ (or whatever) is the highest.

-- Who decides what is "C" and what is "A"? The "International Replica Watch Governing Board"? Pure nonsense designed, again, to get more of your dollars.

Lie-3: The movements in "Swiss made" replicas are identical to the genuine watch movements. 27 jewel movements are the best.

-- (See Lie #1 for "Swiss made".) Far from the truth. Very few replica watch movements come from anywhere but China and any watchman can immediately tell it's not genuine. There are no 27 jewels movements in replica watches; only 25, 21, or 17.

Lie-4: The best replicas are 99% true to the genuine and will even fool an Authorized Dealer (AD).

-- Not true. While some may be close (picking a number is impossible) to the genuine, all replicas are flawed. Do you really think you can spend $200 or less and get a watch that's 99% identical to a $4,000-20,000 watch? As for fooling ADs, maybe. Common clerks are easily fooled, but seasoned ADs, upon close inspection, will know it's a replica.

Lie-5: The gold on "Swiss grade" replicas is much higher than on other replicas. The crown, bezel, and mid links are solid gold and the full-gold replicas are 5-wrapped (or 6-wrapped, or whatever).

-- While a few models have been shown to have solid gold mid links (Rolex replicas), the rest of the watch is gold plated or double or triple wrapped gold. ("Search" for threads on how this is done.)

Lie-6: The best Rolex replicas are made with 904L grade steel.

-- Big fat lie. Good replicas are made with 316L quality steel. Rolex is the only company that uses 904L steel and it costs 3 times as much as 316L (one reason why they are so expensive). Replicas are not made with 440 steel, either.

Lie-7: Buying a replica watch is risky, but not if you use sellers from "Replica Review" sites.

-- What most people don't know is the "review" sites are owned and operated by the people who run the sites they recommend--it's very incestuous. These "review" sites are clever and it's easy to get taken in by their lies.

Lie-8: You can tell you're getting a good watch after a thorough examination of the web site.

-- Please. If you think everything displayed on the web is true, you deserve to be fleeced. Scam sites lie about everything, from the quality of their goods to their pledge to make sure every customer is happy. Many even post pictures of genuine watches, (Look for pictures where the watch hands are set at "10:10." Pictures of genuine watches seen in advertisements are always set to "10:10.") but send you junk.

Lie-9: Picking a good seller will always result in getting a good watch, one I won't have trouble with.

-- We wish. Quality control in replica watch factories is hit-and-miss, but mostly shoddy. One batch may be great while the next produces watches that are DOA. (Remember, making replica watches is illegal, even in China. Replica watch "factories" are usually small operations that can be easily moved or hidden from prying authorities.) What is true, though, is a good dealer will want to protect his/her reputation and will fix whatever is wrong.

Lie-10: Paying by COD is the best way to get the cheapest price. Plus, I can examine my watch before paying the courier to make sure I get what I paid for.

-- A really dumb thing to do and a huge red flag that you're dealing with a true scammer. They want cash because they know you'll scream foul to your credit card company the moment you see the junk you just paid $1,000 for.

One final point. Remember, replica watches are counterfeit goods. While it is not illegal to purchase or possess replica watches in most countries, it is illegal to sell them. Keep this in mind when using PayPal or communicating with credit card companies.

Cartier Santos 100 XL

Cartier watches are undeniably sexy and have an excellent brand image. Not always the watch for when you want something horologically interesting on your wrist, they are a great default watch for days you want something "simply nice" on your wrist. Still a jeweler in spirit, Cartier strives for that polished high-end look as opposed to being overtly avant garde. Conservative and nice is their main design drive.

My personal favorite line in the Cartier watch collection is the Santos. The 100 XL is their larger version of the watch, the standard model is a bit small for my tastes. At 38mm wide and tall the square 100 Xl Santos does not sound too large, but as a square shape it is a good substantial size on one's wrist without being silly in size. Of the coolest versions is this 18k rose gold and rubber model. While it is very sporty, the black with gold look is beautiful. I love how the Cartier Roman numeral style melds with the hues. Really attractive with a timeless quality to it.

Compared to many other watches out there Cartier watches are simple, but the devil is in the polish and the details. The refined designs are flattering to the wearer and function well as timepieces. The smooth sides of the square Santos are enhanced by screws on the rubber coated black bezel and on the segmented rubber strap. Contrasting finishes of polish and brushed finished adorn the surfaces of the case. The dial is angular and sharp in its lines, while the case itself has softer curves to it. A utilitarian feel comes from the bolt style crown - finished off with a jewelry style black jewel cabochon in it.

Inside the watch is an automatic mechanical movement and the watch itself is water resistant to 100 meters. This is a higher-end sports model from Cartier as it is in gold, and there is also a chronograph version available. You may opt for an alligator strap that I am sure can be attained (watch has a 22mm wide strap). Retail price is a bout $20,000, but you can usually find it from $15,000 - $18,000. All part of the cost of Cartier ownership.

The Masterful Maison Cartier has been creating these precious objects for more than 150 years. Each object is designed respecting the three traditional values of the Maison: creativity, authenticity and originality. From their creation to the present day, The Cartier collections have crossed the centuries. Watches, jewelry, perfume, small leather goods, accessories... you name it!,and it's a part of the magic of Cartier. Owning a Cartier watch is a status symbol and shows off wealth and placement in society. Cartier makes watch collections like Declaration, Tortue, Tank, Santos, Pasha De, Roadster, and Chronograph. The materials used to make these elegant watches are platinum, yellow gold, white gold, pink gold, steel and titanium. Cartiers makes watches for men and women in all different sizes. Some of the other popular Cartier watches are watches such as the Tank Americaine series, Tank Francaise series, Tortue series, and Pasha Seatimer Series.

The Cartier Santos 100 watch series is more than just a watch, it's a super watch. If we were to grade it on a scale from 1 to 10, we would definitely give it a 10 out of 10, but since its name already indicates its unquestionable efficiency, we don't have to elaborate on how efficient it can be, as far as quality and design are concerned. The Santos 100 watch series is perfectly designed to match your lifestyle, whatever it may be, and your requirements, and it's definitely going to make you fall in love with its impeccable features, So why waste your money on something inferior, when you can buy something precious and something that's worth its price aka "A Santos 100 Watch"!

Watches - changing with time

Many things have changed throughout time. The clothing we wear has evolved from leaves to tunics to the clothing that is on our backs today. Transportation has evolved from traveling by foot to traveling by animal to traveling by cars, airplanes and trains. Telling time has also evolved. Many years ago man told the time merely by the sun’s placement in the sky. Then the invention of the sundial came about. Finally the clocks and watches that we use now were invented.

Watches have also evolved with time and change. Watches have been mechanical, battery powered, solar powered, and kinetic. In the nineteenth century Cartier among others popularized the wrist watches that we now wear.

The function of watches has also evolved. The first watches only told the time. Then many watches told the time and the date. Now you can find a watch that will calculate for you. You can also take photographs, listen to music, and watch movies using a watch.

The function of watches is not the only thing people look at when they decide on the watch that they are going to wear. They also look at the style of the watch. Divers look for a diving watch that can withstand a lot of pressure. Connoisseurs look for golden watches, watches with gems, or watches that are unique in different ways. Scientists search out wristwatches that can help them do their work better. Adventurers seek out watches that are tough and functional for their lifestyle. Children are attracted to the watches that are cute and whimsical. Sometimes they seek out the ones that play the little tunes, like the Disney watches. Teenagers tend to look for a watch that is fashionable and trendy.

The watch that we wear is not only functional but tells who we are as a person. Make sure that the watch that you choose shows people your true self. Your watch should compliment your arm as well as your fashion sense.

The place to purchase watches has also evolved from specialty shops to just about anywhere that you find merchandise. Antique stores have wristwatches. You can find watches in many of the stores that you would find in a mall. Auctions, boutiques, and even street corners are also places where you can buy a watch. Another place that you can shop for watches is online.

Watches are not done evolving and changing. People are still tinkering with wristwatches. They are continually looking to improve the technology in wristwatches. They are also continuing to seek out new functions that they can add to watches. Just as our fashion sense in clothing changes so does our fashion sense in watches. Watches are forever being redesigned to fit the current trends and styles. Some things in this world may be done changing, the watch, however, may change so long as people’s needs and wants continue to change.

Wrist Watches - So what's your power statement?

Watch out, wrist watches are not just telling time these days They are actually talking aloud about you and your status!!

The erstwhile simple and sober machine designed to keep you abreast with time has undergone a powerful transition. Coming in jazzy new avatars, with multiple features wrist watches are no longer a necessity, they are a cool fashion accessory for some and a power statement for most others.

Brand Matters

When it comes to watches, brands matter more than the design and even the time they are telling. For those at the helm of affairs brands indicate the richness and status of the wearer and that is what matters most today. Expensive and premium quality watches like Rolex or Chopard are found on the wrists of the rich and famous. Other classic brands that are in the most aspired list include Longines, Omega, Armani, Titan, Seiko and Timex.

Watches for special occasions

There was a time when people passed their entire life in one wrist watch, today a man carries a score of them and yet keep an eye on the upcoming model. Watches today have to gel with the spirit of the occasion, the mood and the dressing of the day. Stylists believe that wrist watches add to the persona and people who matter must take a lot of care while selecting one for an important occasion.

Watches for specific sports

Sport watches is the other growing segment with sportsperson becoming more affluent and also because prosperous people are taking up sports to spend their past time. Today, there are specialized watches for specific sports like tennis, gymnastics, equestrian sports, skiing, swimming, speed skating etc.

Collectible and Jewelry Watches

Ultra rich now want watches that are a masterpiece, something they can flaunt and also keep for life. Going beyond the brands, watches are tailor-made exclusively to suit the fancy of these stinking rich people. These could be made in sold solid, and have diamonds and precious stones all over. Ladies watches specially come in this genre and serve more as a precious piece of jewellery rather than a watch.

Multiple Features

Watches that just tell time and date are rather too simple for this date. For the ubersexual man of today, the watch that they sport on their wrist must be multi-functional and complicated. Two of the most popular complications in a watch are the chronograph complication, which is the ability of the watch movement to work as a stopwatch, and the moon phase complication, which is a display of the lunar phase. Chronometer watches, which are made to be more accurate than others, are also popular amongst the watch enthusiasts.

People who are frequently on move and travel in different time zones want their watch to be dual time. This feature allows them see what time it is at home when they are elsewhere.

To suit the fancy of the watch aficionado, watch makers have included features that have practically no connection with basic feature of a watch. Multi-functional watches designed by them have 3D games, calculators, video games, digital cameras, flash drives, GPS receivers and cellular phones. A watch company even attempted to include TV in a watch!!

So tell me, whats your power statement looking at your wrist, arent you??

Watches for Different Lifestyles

Time is important. For people on the go, owning a watch is of extreme importance. The need to be on time is the way of life on this fast-paced earth. Watches come in all shapes and forms. All functioning the way it should, telling you the time. Since you are going to look at your watch several times a day, you might as well be looking at something appealing, nice, and attractive. Watches are necessities as well as accessories. Which watch should you pick and for what purpose?

1. Sports

In sports, watches are important as it shows you how fast you are traveling. There are specialty watches for flying, running, racing and the like. These watches are mostly digital and can double up as a stopwatch. They are usually durable and could withstand air pressure and shock. Some watches can measure speed over time. It has navigational bezels for this purpose. Other watches can even store lap time. Usually these watches are big and bulky. Sport watches should be tough enough, not to mention, very sporty looking.

2. Work

It is best to select watches that have clear dials and a second hand. Some watches have built-in timers or alarms in it, which will remind you of your deadlines and your appointments. Select the one that has a day and date as well, so you need not check your planner for that. Work watches are the ones commonly used compared to the other type of watches. It would be best to select one with a good metal bracelet; it is more durable than the leather ones. Leather bracelets will wear out over time as perfume, perspiration, and water damage them.

3. Home and Leisure

If you are just lying and relaxing around the house, time isn't all that important. You can use those light-weight watches with leather bands or plastic wrist bands. This way, you won't worry about it being scratched or wet as you go around your daily household routine. For home use, select the simplest ones.

4. Formal nights

Watches should go with your dress attire during party nights or social functions. You can show off your luxury watch during such occasions. Watches that are studded with diamond and gems give a hint of elegance. Usually, these watches are thin, since they worn under the sleeves. Use the one that matches the color of your attire. Black is the most formal color and leather bracelets are advisable too.

5. Casual

If you're going to a mall or to a picnic, you can wear those trendy watches from fashion brand designers. These trendy watches are usually unique in style, color, and band material. It goes well with your casual look. When shopping for a casual watch, keep in mind, it's time to create a fashion statement with your watch!

Another important thing to consider is the movement of the watch. Movement determines the accuracy of the watch. You can select automatic or kinetic watch, so you need not replace batteries at all. But a quartz watch offers accuracy. It will not stop as long as the batteries are good. Choosing the right watch does matter. This ensures getting the utmost form and function out of it. Take into account the brand of the watch also. By doing so, you'll be able to select the right style within your price range.

Oris Regulateur

The polls have been counted, the results are in and the verdict...size matters! Well, at least underwater, according to Oris. The swiss watchmaker, well known for producing high quality yet at the same time surprisingly affordable diving watches, has just released its new diving watch, and its the largest ever! At 49mm the Regulateur "Der Meistertaucher" is no delicate timepiece, but then again, one would generally not consider diving a particularly delicate pursuit either. However, one must really wonder at the practicality of a watch this size out of the water. Granted it's certain to make an impression wherever it is worn but whether said impression is favourable or not really depends on the interpretation of the wearer.

Although, to be fair, this watch must be assessed on the basis of what it has been designed for and one look at its rather large face will tell you that when it comes to diving, this timepiece means business. For a diving watch size is as important as functionality and style, there is no value in having a small cluttered dial that cannot be easily read with a quick glance. To support the ease of use the watch’s orange Superluminova coating has been designed to glow in the blackest water. Safety is also a prominent feature thanks to the regulator display separating the hours, minutes and seconds. The watch is water-resistant to a respectable 1000m/100 bar and comes equipped with a helium escape valve.

The specifications also attest to this watch's calibre as a more than capable diving instrument:

Movement - Automatic

Functions - Hours, minutes, small seconds, date and tachometer

Case - Grade 2 titanium, 49 mm, aluminium unidirectional rotating bezel, anti-reflective convex sapphire crystal, screw-down back, screw-down crown and helium valve, water-resistant to 1000 m/100 bar

Dial - Black with waves decor, applied hour-marker, numerals and hands coated with dark orange Superluminova, central display for minutes and off-centre for hours and seconds at 4 and 10 o’clock respectively, date window at 6 o’clock

Bracelet/Strap - Black rubber with extendible titanium folding safety clasp or extendible titanium bracelet comprising several parts.

Although big on size the Oris divers is a real must for purist divers who desire a functional and reliable timepiece, and not just a great deal of marketing hype.

Oris F1 Day Date Watch

Some watches that are art, and some that are technical marvels but we are talking about neither of those today. Today we are talking about a high quality and comfortable every day watch that should be in every "normal" watch guys collection. The Oris F1 Day Date is a marvelous watch that is impossible not to love. The watch is available on both a nice metal bracelet or an exceptional rubber strap, and in my opinion one of the nicest rubber bands you will find at this or any price level. The rubber band is soft yet never losses it's shape and unlike less refined bands, is slightly scented with vanilla so the foul smell of wet rubber will never be on your watch or arm.
The case and face have multiple color combinations anywhere from blue on sliver to completely blacked out with a black face and black PVD case, some orange and red are thrown in for good measure. As a casual watch collector, you'll have no problem finding a color combination you'll want to wear every day. The case has a nice overall finish, combining both brushed and polished surfaces that seem to enhance the overall quality of the Oris product. The case features a stainless steel crown which measures 42mm, which is a rather standard size these days for most watches in this price range. It looks great on both thin and wide wrists, and as I've mentioned previously is amazingly comfortable, mostly due to the freedom movement and angle the strap sits at the side of the case. I really can't say enough about the comfort level of this watch. It just feels like it belongs on your wrist every day.

Mechanically the watch uses the time tested and completely solid 25 jewel Oris 635 automatic movement which includes automatic and manual winding with a 38 hour power reserve. There is a clear case back on the F1 Day Date, showing off this fine precise movement and you'll spend just as much time admiring the technical precision of the movement as you will the great looks of the case.

The top glass on this timepiece is a flat Sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Each face has a unique carbon fiber look to it, enhancing the "sport" look of this watch. The hour, minute and indices are all treated with "Superluminova," and have a slight glow to them when fully charged. If there is one thing about this watch I would improve upon is the lume visibility, maybe slightly larger hands and lume on the second hand would make a nice improvement.
For just under 1000 dollars retail, you can't find a more complete, comfortable, attractive watch than an Oris F1 Day Date. I am a particular fan of the black on black with red highlights; there is just something about a stealth looking watch that I enjoy, but each of the models has a distinctive look that sets it apart from its brethren.

Big Crown Pointer Date Watch By Oris

Oris is pretty well known to me as a maker of workhorse watches with all sorts of sporty themes. Maybe it is racing, or diving, or aviation - Oris has a handsome watch for the job. Less people know their retro styled watches. One such example is the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date watch. It has a terrible name (no effort there!), but totally falls into the category of what I call "the dad watch." Yea, that looks like something everyone's "dad" used to wear. It has that sense of classic no-nonsense functionality that seems to remind you of steady good taste for uncontroversial times in the past. This is for people whose father were not sports or action heroes but regular guys who wanted something nice, but "reasonable."

The Big Crown Pointer Date watches come in a few styles and even in a smaller version for the ladies ("mom watch" anyone?). Prices are actually quite reasonable. You can a well-made mechanical Swiss watch for well under $1000. Of course there are version just over $1000 and at least the ladies versions come in quartz models as well. Oris watches tend to always feel like a good value, even if you get into their several thousand dollar diving watches (that are great depending on your tastes). Pictured are three of the varieties of the watch. Oris really is trying to make a Big Crown Pointer Date watch for everyone. White dial, black dial, silver dial. Little bit of decoration or without. I tend to like the two-tone model with the gold coined edge bezel and some gold-toned links in the bracelet.

The name of the watch pretty much sums it up, but I wanted to discuss a bit. As to the pointer date that is pretty self evident. Using a periphery and crescent moon hand to indicate the date as opposed to having a disc underneath the dial with a date window. The large crown is interesting. At 40mm wide, proper watch making etiquette would have had Oris give it a moderately sized crown. But this is a man's watch, and Oris wanted to emphasize the traditional aspect of the design. Back when watches like this usually were manually wound and needed more of your attention. Thus, to give the watch a more important and traditional look, the crown is sized for a watch that is a few millimeters larger in diameter. While there are a few styles of hands, I prefer the classic aviator style ones.

It is probably a better idea to get one of these modern vintage style Oris Big Crown Pointer Date watches than one of the originals it is based on from "way back when." While I am of course a fan of modern watches, there is a big place on my heart for quality vintage designs from back when mechanical watches were all you had, and all watches were something a bit special. Not like you could go to the drug store and get a cheap quartz watch or a high quality Swiss one. So for those times there are plenty of homage are vintage styles such as this Oris watch available out there.

Zenith Glam’ Rock

Dedicated to the woman who is strong yet free, launched in a wild Road Movie on heat-soaked desert roads, the Glam’ Rock collection is a runaway whose speed of escape is set by huge numerals, a black and white setting and an explosion of stars.

Glam’Rock

Diamonds and stars – that’s the Glam,
leather and metal – that’s the Rock

With a new Elite 68 movement, a small second counter at 9 o’clock, housed in a 37.5 mm diameter case, this new masterpiece plays light against dark on a smooth leather strap. Larger than its Baby Star sister, and thinner than a chronograph, it offers an elegant compromise to the woman who wants a feminine watch that concentrates on the essentials. Its special feature is the workmanship of the dial, which is studded with stars and set with diamonds in every version: the numerals have 12 black and 15 white diamonds, whilst 11 shards of light burn against a midnight-sky black or a luminous white background. Another option is to have the diamonds on the bezel play joyful music : two black diamond notes for every white one, 2.5 carats in total. And on the back, through the sapphire glass, the completely hand-made automatic mechanical movement is in full view.

The Star El Primero version is of course still available, with a similar bezel setting : for women who cannot imagine life other than at 36,000 vibrations per hour, working girls, urban chic but laid back, just as ready to meet a challenge as to let go. They will give themselves the world, in the shape of the Star Open, which reveals the escapement of the El Primero 4021 movement in a great starburst. The smaller Baby Star, which can be open or not open, comes with a removable rigid strap, very rock ‘n roll.

Whether the watches are on a metal link bracelet, or a smooth black patent leather strap or even rubber embossed with numbers and stars, this festive collection combines black, stainless steel and diamonds, and can be worn in broad daylight or in the heat of the night. Designed for the ZENITH woman, these timepieces conjugate the useful with the pleasing, the decorative with the essential, thus proving that it is possible for beauty and intelligence to be one.
