Magrette Moana Pacific Diver Watch

New Zealand based boutique watchmaker, Magrette, recently released a new limited edition dive watch, the Moana Pacific Diver. It is capable of an impressive water resistance of 500 meters (1,650 feet) deep. For keeping track of dive time, it features a 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel. The case is stainless steel and comes in a comfortable 44 mm diameter, and features a polished top, bezel and crown, and brushed sides. It is powered by a reliable Miyota 8215 automatic mechanical movement, with 21 jewels.

The Panerai style case may look like a Radimoir, but it really does have a style all of its own. The dial is black with the name "Moana Pacific" in yellow, to match the yellow bezel numbers and markers. C3 Superluminova is used on the hours hand, minutes hand, and hour markers. The hand configuration is a simple three hand movement with central hours, minutes and seconds. The movement is capable displaying a date, however, in favor of style, Magrette decided to go sans date. Great choice on a watch that is more about simplicity than complication.

The caseback is solid brushed stainless steel and is engraved with the Magrette logo and the numbered edition (this one is 22/500). The screw-down crown is polished and has the Magrette logo on it as well.

The crystal is a double domed sapphire with a single sided anti-reflective treatment.

Each of the 500 numbered limited edition timepieces comes with a 24 mm black leather strap (with red backing and red contrasting stitching), and an buttery soft black rubber strap. Both straps feature a buckle and extremely comfortable.

Also included with the watch, instead of the generic watch box, is an "eco pine" wooden box with the Magrette logo burned into the top. Inside the box, the watch comes wrapped in a signature vintage style roll case made from high grade New Zealand canvas. (Optionally for an additional charge you can get a handmade Kauri box, that is even nicer.)

Overall, this watch is comfortable, unique and luxurious. I am very impressed with the quality and value that you get for your money. It really seems like a watch that would cost much more. Plus it comes with an extra strap, a wooden display box and vintage roll case. It is very refreshing to see an independent brand like this, that offers such a unique selling proposition, at such a reasonable price.
