The circle of watch companies capable of developing and designing their own movements is extremely small. Corum has been part of it since 1980, having made a noteworthy entrance into the field of Haute Horlogerie with a first in-house made movement displaying the capacity for innovation of a brand that remains true to its history.
The distinctive nature of the hand-wound Calibre CO 113 placed at the heart of the iconic 30 year-old Golden Bridge model is visible at a glance. This slender vertically placed movement equipped with a slipping spring and a variable-inertia balance illustrates not only the technical mastery of the watchmakers who contributed to its development, but also the skill of passionately dedicated artisans at the peak of their art. For the originality of this calibre beating at a cadence of 28,000 vibrations per hour is matched by the elegance of its finishing. The hand-engraved 18-carat gold mainplate and bridges reveal an intricate ballet of resolutely refined and delicately wreathed shapes. Initialy presented in titanium, the Golden Bridge Titanium now also comes in a black PVD-coated model associating the exquisite slenderness of the case fitted with sapphire crystals and crafted from rugged titanium, a material also renowned for its lightness. The deep black colour of the satin-finish case accentuates the shimmering gold reflections of the hand-engraved movement. Black openworked hour and minute hands glide over the 18K gold bridges and plate. Embodying a blend of modern styling and authentic horological traditions, Corum redefines the very concept of timelessness with this model which will be produced in a limited edition of 138.
This legendary calibre introduced in 1980 inspired Corum to set a truly innovative seal on the year 2009. In unveiling the Ti-Bridge, the watch company brilliantly reaffirmed its mechanical expertise, while endowing it with a decidedly avant-garde touch. The movement and the case of the Ti-Bridge are in titanium for a limited production of 750, or in black PVD-treated titanium for a limited series of 250. The bridges and plates of the new Calibre CO 007 are crafted from this ultra-modern material and black PVD-coated for the black version. All parts of the movement are meticulously finished, including the upper bridge engraved with the name “Corum”, the satin-brushed bridges, and the stately snailed satin-brushed barrel. The latter is held inside the case by two sets of titanium cross-bars perfecting the aesthetic appeal of this movement. Screwed to the flange, itself integrated within the case, they contribute to consolidating the overall construction.
As the first model to house this mechanical innovation, the Ti-Bridge heralds the emergence of a new line within the Corum collections, expressing understated modern elegance that creates a perfect balance between refined design and technical sophistication.
An exceptional watch for the 50th anniversary of a flagship collection
For half a century, the Admiral’s Cup has been a tribute by Corum to the world of sailors and sea-lovers. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this legendary model, Corum has chosen to associate this watch with a movement combining two of the most prestigious horological complications: the tourbillon and the minute repeater. The Admiral’s Cup Minute Repeater Tourbillon 45 is thus equipped with Calibre CO 010, an exceptional movement that called for two years of development and fine-tuning, along with the intervention of a dozen of Corum’s finest watchmaking craftsmen. Meticulous attention has been devoted to the individual hand finishing of each surface, with circular satin-brushed moving parts, zinc mirrorpolished steel parts including the hammer and tourbillon bridge, as well as a circular-grained mainplate and bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève.
The creativity and extreme care that governed the concept of Calibre CO 010 are reflected in the exterior of this model. In order to highlight the movement, Corum has chosen to replace the dial by a PVD-treated tinted sapphire crystal enabling one to admire the extreme complexity of the minute repeater and tourbillon mechanisms. Its subtle grey colour, accentuated by the monochrome nautical pennants on the flange, confer a touch of understated elegance. The 45 mm-diameter case in 18-carat gold is immediately recognisable by its famous 12-sided satin-polished bezel. Considering the fact that it takes a master-watchmaker over 140 hours to assemble the 319 parts of its movement, along with 10 additional hours to adjust the sound of the minute repeater, it is easy to see why only 10 of these admirable watches are to emerge from the workshops at the start of the year 2010.
