DANIEL ROTH - The Tourbillon Lumière Platinum

In 2007, the Manufacture Daniel Roth presented its Tourbillon Lumière in gold. Two years later, it is launching a platinum version that is a masterpiece of complexity as well as the epitome of lightness and minimalism.

Solar inspiration

Simply picking up a Tourbillon Lumière Platine reveals the natural elements that have inspired it: the sunlight streaming into the Manufacture Daniel Roth workshops, as well as the silence that pervades them, have doubtless played a key role in creating this mechanical marvel – a “paradoxical” model featuring a blend of finesse and undeniable presence linked to the weight of this noble material.

Lightness in motion

Designers, engineers and master-watchmakers have pooled their expertise and dexterity in defining the exact quantity of metal serving to achieve a balance between optimal functionality and visual harmony. Each part of the Calibre DR780 Tourbillon Squelette movement is chamfered, hand- drawn with a file and meticulously hand-crafted.

The mainplates are sapphire-blasted and each openworked bridge features a satin-brushed finish. The blued steel chapter ring, adorned with diamond-polished hollowed dots, and the serpentine hands made from the same material, create a striking contrast with the overall effect of crystal-clear transparency. The extreme concern for detail characteristic of Daniel Roth master-watchmakers is expressed right through to the manual finishing of all the screws that are even are oriented in the same direction as the dial.

The front and back are quite logically protected by glareproofed sapphire crystals enabling unobstructed contemplation of this sheer marvel. The constantly moving, feather-light and luminous tourbillon with its straight- line lever comprises no less than 82 parts and features a vertically-polished bridge. This traditional finish is applied to other elements of the tourbillon carriage, as well as to the other movement organs. The Tourbillon Lumière Platinum is fitted with a midnight blue strap in hand-sewn double- sided alligator leather, complete with a white gold folding clasp and setting the final touch to this stunning representation of time in motion.

Tourbillon Lumière Platinum in a nutshell…

The Tourbillon Lumière Platinum is the kind of intricate and graceful masterpiece that collectors and connoisseurs of fine watchmaking dream of. Its Calibre DR 780 Tourbillon Squelette hand-movement is specially hand finished and decorated. Its case, openworked dial with blued steel chapter ring and serpentine hands, as well as the movement plates and bridges, are all made in platinum – one of the most difficult materials of all to craft. The transparent sapphire crystal case- back provides a clear view of the underside of the movement, as well as a display of the 64-hour power reserve.
