1834 • The Baumes had already spent decades making watches when the company BAUME FRERES was founded in Bois (Suisse Romande), producing above all enamelled fob watches.

1844 • Joseph Célestin Baume established contacts in England. He sold watches signed WATERLOO, DIVIKO and SIRDAR in Australia and New Zealand.

1893 • Baume won the chronometry competition of the KEW TEDDINGTON Observatory with a score of 91.9 out of 100.

1912 • William Baume made the acquaintance of the jeweller Paul Mercier, at the HAAS atelier in Geneva.

1918 • BAUME & MERCIER founded in Geneva.

1937 • William Baume and Paul Mercier withdrew from the business, and the jeweller Constantin de Gorski joined the company.
After the Second World War, BAUME & MERCIER concentrated on classic men’s watches, sports chronographs and ladies jewelled wristwatches.

1965 • PIAGET bought a majority shareholding in BAUME & MERCIER.

1968 • Production of one the slimmest calendar watches in the world with micro-rotor automatic rewind.
The same year, the landmarks for tuning electronics were established.

1970 • The brand bet everything on quartz.

1983 • BAUME & MERCIER temporarily stopped manufacture of mechanical watches.

1988 • Christian and Yves Piaget sold 60% of their stake in PIAGET HOLDING S.A. and BAUME & MERCIER to CARTIER MONDE S.A.

1993 • PIAGET and BAUME & MERCIER taken oven entirely by the CARTIER Group.

1994 • Launch of the HAMPTON Line


1997 • Introduction of CATWALK.

1999 • Launch of the HAMPTON MILLEIS.

2000 • Launch of the CAPELAND Line.

2002 • Launch of the HAMPTON SPIRIT.

2003 • In September, inauguration of the new Manufacture in Brenets. Launch of HAMPTON CITY.
